The day before
- Collect your bib at the expo with your ID. Check the start time, start area and baggage rules.
- Pin your bib to the front of your shirt with four pins. Don't fold it: the timing chip is often on the bib.
- Lay out everything: shoes, clothes you have run in before, watch, gels, cap, sunscreen, safety pins.
- Eat a familiar dinner and drink normally. Sleep as well as you can; nerves are normal.
Race morning
- Eat the breakfast you practised on long runs, two to three hours before the start.
- Arrive early, use the toilets, and walk or jog gently for ten minutes to warm up.
- Line up in the right start zone for your expected finish time.
During the race
- Start slower than you want to. The first kilometres should feel easy.
- Drink at aid stations, a few sips at a time. Take your gels as you practised.
- If you feel unwell, slow down or stop and ask a marshal or medic for help.
After the finish
Keep walking, drink, eat something, and change into dry clothes. Then find the Bhuj Runners crew for the group photo.
