Bhuj runners represent Kutch at the Tata Mumbai Marathon
About 15 members of the Bhuj Runners group completed the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024, India's biggest marathon, and carried a message about health and sport back home.
Bhuj Runners started in July 2018 as a group of people in Bhuj who wanted to stay healthy by running long distances together. Today it is the only long-distance running group in Bhuj: a registered trust with about 60 runners, around 20 full marathoners and five ultra marathoners.
The club was founded by Dr. Alap Antani, an Ayurvedic doctor from Bhuj. The idea was simple: meet early, run together, and help each other go further than anyone would alone.
Since then the group has run more than 960 group runs on the roads of Bhuj, up Bhujiyo hill and out towards the Rann. In 2019 the club ran its first marathon as a team, and members have since finished races from Ahmedabad and Mumbai to Goa, Vadodara and Satara.
From September 2026 the club also hosts Monthly Miles, a monthly activity open to everyone, whatever their fitness.
We run in pace groups so that everybody has company, from a first 5K to a 50K.
The group waits at turn points and the last runner always has a buddy.
Steady progress, rest and recovery matter more than speed. We run early to beat the Kutch heat.
No litter, no plastic left behind, courtesy on the road. The land and its people come first.

Organised in just three days, the walkathon introduced citizens to the Smritivan earthquake memorial and its Miyawaki forest, with a message to keep it plastic-free.
Come to a group run this week and try it before you decide to join.
